The best place to seek God is in a garden. You can dig for him there. ~George Bernard Shaw, The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God, 1932
Namasté!
I hope this finds everyone well & happy! It's been awhile, hasn't it? I swear I haven't been hibernating with Mother Earth! I still need to do the chicken-keeping article...I've just been very busy these past few months & still haven't had a chance to organize my class notes.
For one good thing, my work schedule changed & I'm working more, which is a really good thing. Speaking of that, the U.S. Census Bureau is hiring, for those looking for work. It's temporary (although some jobs will last until November), but pays well. Call 1-866-861-2010.
Looks like things have changed here on typepad.com...everything looks different. And Elizabeth, thank you so much for the kind comments & the poetic prose (I so enjoy your work). I miss you guys, but I'm going to come in & get some more winter flowers next week. The violas I got from y'all are blooming away! They're so pretty.
Yeah, just tell Tami to get in touch with me when she gets the website up & running. You guys have my contact info & it's also elsewhere in this blog.
I hope everyone's New Year has gotten off to a great start. I've made my only New Year's resolution & that is to make this year the best ever. I also wish the same for all of you. Let's make it so! Happy 2010!
Okay...I put a layer on my compost bed today & just got all excited. I dug up a couple of places & there are all kinds of critters partying in there...including tons of my beloved earthworms!!! In a few months that bed is going to be able to sustain some plants while all the inhabitants continue to create rich, nutrient-laden soil around the plants. It really made me feel good as I added the new layer of food waste & pizza boxes.
I'm very happy to report that my indoor vermicompost system has produced enough compost for me to provide a friend some for the yard of her beautiful new home. She's planted some bulbs & some wildflower seeds for the springtime. Speaking of planting bulbs, has anyone heard to plant them after the second freeze? That was the advice she got & followed. Then we had that stretch of cold days, so I don't know what that means. Any comments on this will be appreciated :-)
So, that's about all I have to say at this time. I basically wanted to touch base here, especially after seeing my compost creatures so hard at work. It just makes me really happy. You guys probably think I'm a major nutcase since I talk about composting so much! It's incredibly satisfying to know that I'm recycling so much stuff back into the Earth to be made into food as well as beautiful flowers & plants. To also know that my concentric waves are spreading beyond my own little world makes me feel even more blissed. I guess I'd be really ecstatic to have the opportunity to run a community compost program of some kind. An idea that is fermenting in my brain...
Now I need to get my notes together & do the chicken-keeping article...I'm behind on several things in my life right now. C'est la vie! I'll get it together soon!
Until next time, take care & be well, be grateful & be blessed!
WeR1!
